Saint Leopold Mandić, Capuchin saint,

confessor and patron of cancer patients

Saint Leopold Mandić has been officially recognized by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments as the patron saint of those suffering from cancer. The decree of the Congregation was announced in Padua, where the Sanctuary of Saint Leopold is located and where his relics are kept, on the eve of the World Day of the Sick 

(11 February 2020).

PRAYER OF A CANCER PATIENT

O dear Saint Leopold, you have always helped and consoled all who turned to you in their spiritual and material needs. Filled with great confidence, I too turn to you, so rich in kindness and generosity. In your life you experienced the turmoil and hardship of living with cancer: stay close to me. You know my anguish and anxiety: come to my aid. Support my faith, strengthen my hope, obtain for me the grace to face the suffering and the treatments for my illness, overcoming this trial in a positive way. Intercede with the Father so that my heart may find true peace and serenity. Grant that I may, with a grateful heart, thank that merciful God whom you yourself proclaimed

"doctor and medicine".

“Ex corpore” relic of Saint Leopold Mandić, patron saint of cancer patients, kept in the Chapel of the Stigmata of Saint Francis in the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione at the Roman Forum. The relic was brought on March 7, 2020, from the Sanctuary of Saint Leopold Mandić in Padua.
